Turn your regular bath or shower into the ultimate spa-like experience with an all-natural body scrub.
Making your own body scrub is easy, affordable and allows you to have complete control over ingredients like organic oils and natural scents. So, let’s get started by getting to know the body scrub basics!
The exfoliator is the ingredient that helps polish off old skin cells. You can customize the grain size by grinding it down with a mortar and pestle so that you have a grain that works best for your skin. Keep in mind that some ingredients, such as oats, may require a quick clean of the tub after you rinse.
The following ingredients are good exfoliants:
Sea salt, finely ground
White or brown sugar
Oats
Ground coffee beans
Almond meal
The oil is the ingredient that helps moisturize your skin. It also helps to hold the other ingredients together into a paste. The following ingredients are good body scrub oils:
Jojoba oil
Sweet almond oil
Grape seed oil
Olive oil
The fragrance in your homemade body scrub is achieved with essential oils and herbs with pleasing and therapeutic odours. You can focus on one particular scent, or experiment with combining several until you find the perfect aroma!
The following herbs and essential oils make great fragrances for body scrubs:
Vanilla
Eucalyptus
Lavender
Green tea
Citrus zest
Rosemary
For all recipes below, make sure to mix the ingredients well and store in an airtight glass container, such as a mason jar. Use 1– 2 tablespoons in the shower by gently rubbing onto your skin.

½ cup brown sugar
1 tsp pure vanilla extract or 1 drop vanilla essential oil
