This approach will not address all food allergies, however, it can be tried safely as a hopeful solution. Bromelain has also been used successfully as an anti-inflammatory agent. Bromelain reduces inflammation by breaking down fibrin, a process known as fibrinolysis. It performs this function by stimulating the production of plasmin, which breaks down the fibrin, which prevents fibrin from producing localized swelling. The increased level of plasmin also blocks the formation of compounds that increase inflammation. Bromelain has been shown to be effective in an antibiotic fashion in some cases of infection. It can be used to assist standard treatment for pneumonia, perirectal abscess, skin staphylococcus infection, pyelonephritis and bronchitis. Bromelain has been shown to produce substantial anticancer effect in test animals and in cell cultures. A major effect is reduced metastasis. Clinical evaluation of bromelain in humans for its anticancer effects has not been carried out. However, bromelain is a safe food derivative and may be used on an individual basis as a part of traditional cancer therapy. Animal and culture results do not always translate into practical human benefits, but no risk is associated with a physician guided personal use.
